Why Screen Printing?
To screen print bags and garments, we use UV light to etch your design into special coated mesh screens, creating a template. The ink is swept across the screen by a squeegee and prints your design onto the fabric.
One colour is printed at a time, with a separate screen for each colour in your artwork.
Screen printing has many advantages. It's cost effective and gives you a great finish, with rich, vibrant colours that perfectly match your artwork. The ink is durable too, meaning it stays brighter for longer.
The type of artwork you want to reproduce is also a consideration. This printing method is ideal for artwork that features blocks of solid colour.
When To Use Another Process
If you’re looking to reproduce lots of colours on a small print run, or you have a more complex design, screen printing may not be the most cost-effective method to use – take a look at direct-to-garment or transfer printing instead.
There are a couple of design restrictions too.
Shading and colour gradients are difficult to reproduce, as are intricate details and very small text.
Finally, if you're printing onto fabric with a high plastic content, or a garment that’s made of layers, transfer printing may be a better option.
